Product Overview
ADM7172ACPZ-R7 is the adjustable-output member of the ADM7172 2 A CMOS LDO family. It accepts 2.3 V to 6.5 V and sets output voltage from 1.2 V up to approximately VIN minus dropout using an external feedback divider.
The regulator is intended for rails where output noise, supply rejection, and transient response are important. The datasheet specifies 5 µV rms output noise over 100 Hz to 100 kHz and 60 dB PSRR at 100 kHz.

Key Features
- Up to 2 A output current.
- Adjustable output beginning at 1.2 V.
- 5 µV rms output noise and high PSRR.
- Precision enable and adjustable soft-start.
Functional Highlights
The ACPZ-R7 order code is adjustable, not fixed at 3.3 V. The feedback divider therefore becomes part of output accuracy and noise performance.
At high load current, thermal dissipation can dominate selection: approximately (VIN − VOUT) × IOUT is converted to heat in the regulator.
Application Fit
- Low-noise regulation for ADC and DAC circuits.
- Precision amplifier supplies.
- PLL, VCO, and clocking-IC rails.
- Instrumentation and communications circuits requiring a clean high-current rail.
Design Considerations
- Set the output with the datasheet feedback network rather than assuming a fixed voltage.
- Check dropout headroom at the real load current and temperature.
- Calculate power dissipation and use the exposed pad/PCB copper for thermal performance.
- Meet the datasheet output-capacitor requirements and keep feedback nodes away from switching noise.
