Product Overview

The MCP4017T-503E/LT is the 50 kΩ extended-temperature variant of Microchip’s MCP4017 volatile I²C digital rheostat. Its 128 wiper positions provide digital adjustment for analog trim and calibration functions while retaining the compact six-lead SC70 package.

The -503 resistance option has a different resistance-per-step and bandwidth behavior from the 5 kΩ and 10 kΩ versions. Design calculations should therefore use the 50 kΩ device data instead of copying settling or bandwidth figures from another MCP4017 resistance code.

Design Considerations

The programmed wiper value is volatile, so a calibrated system must restore its desired code after startup or brownout. This should be part of firmware initialization rather than assumed to persist in the device.

With a 50 kΩ end-to-end element, parasitic capacitance and the load connected to the wiper can limit AC response. Use the datasheet’s device-specific curves and the intended wiper code when estimating bandwidth or settling.
