Product Overview

The MCP4017T-103E/LTY is Microchip’s current 10 kΩ tape-and-reel ordering option for the MCP4017 volatile digital rheostat in SC70-6. It provides 128 programmable resistance positions over an I²C-compatible interface and is intended for calibration, trim and programmable resistance functions where the setting can be restored by the host after power-up.

This LTY orderable is particularly relevant when replacing the older MCP4017T-103E/LT code: the electrical design remains based on the MCP4017 -103 device, while procurement should use the currently recognized LTY ordering suffix rather than assuming the legacy reel code remains interchangeable in supply-chain systems.

Design Considerations

The MCP4017 is a rheostat, not a three-terminal potentiometer. Its pinout and resistor-terminal access should therefore be checked against the circuit topology before substituting an MCP4018, MCP4019 or another digital-potentiometer family.

Because the wiper memory is volatile, firmware should write the required operating code after startup if the circuit depends on a calibrated value. The 10 kΩ end-to-end tolerance and wiper resistance should be included in absolute-resistance error calculations.
