Product Overview

The AD8313ARMZ-REEL7 is the tape-and-reel 8-lead MSOP version of Analog Devices’ AD8313 logarithmic RF detector/controller. It converts RF input level into a decibel-scaled output voltage from 100 MHz to 2.5 GHz and can also be used inside a feedback loop to regulate an RF amplifier.

A major selection advantage is the wide logarithmic range: Analog Devices specifies 70 dB dynamic range to ±3 dB and ±1 dB accuracy over 65 dB at 1.9 GHz. This makes the part useful for received-signal-strength measurement or transmitter power control where logarithmic response over several decades matters more than true-rms waveform independence.

Design Considerations

The logarithmic transfer function is frequency dependent, so intercept and slope calibration should be based on the actual operating band when absolute power accuracy matters. A system that spans multiple bands may need frequency-specific calibration constants.

The AD8313 measures logarithmic envelope power rather than true rms power. Complex modulation with changing crest factor can therefore produce a different result from a TruPwr detector such as AD8361 or AD8362, even when the average RF power is the same.
