Product Overview
TLC59116IPWR is designed for larger banks of single-color/RGBA constant-current LEDs where individual 8-bit PWM must be combined with one group dim/blink function. It is not an RGB-module abstraction like LP50xx; firmware controls 16 current sinks directly.
REXT defines the channel current globally, so LED type, forward voltage and thermal current limit should be decided before brightness programming. PWM changes duty cycle but does not change the instantaneous programmed sink current.
Four address pins and group/all-call addresses allow many devices to share one bus, making it useful for signage/control panels with much higher LED counts.

Functional Highlights
Group PWM/blink offloads repetitive effects
A bank can blink or dim together without continuously rewriting all 16 individual PWM registers.
REXT separates current calibration from digital brightness
One resistor establishes sink-current scale while PWM provides per-channel intensity; both matter to perceived brightness and thermal load.
Design Considerations
- Choose REXT from LED current/thermal requirements before using PWM for brightness.
- Check total package current and LED-supply headroom at the maximum simultaneous duty cycle.
- Plan I²C addresses/group-call behavior when several drivers share a bus.
