Product Overview
TPL0501-100DCNR is a single-channel 100 kΩ digital potentiometer controlled through SPI. Unlike TPL0401A, it exposes both end terminals and can be used either as a three-terminal divider or a two-terminal rheostat.
Its 256 positions provide twice the nominal step count of a 128-tap device, but end-to-end resistance tolerance and wiper resistance still matter when the part is used as an absolute variable resistor. Divider applications usually benefit more from ratio accuracy than from absolute 100 kΩ accuracy.
This part has volatile control rather than the nonvolatile wiper storage offered by TPL0102. Firmware must therefore write the desired state after power-up if a non-default setting is required.

- Initialize the desired wiper value after every power cycle because this part does not provide the nonvolatile feature of TPL0102.
- Check wiper current and terminal voltage limits in rheostat mode.
- Use ratio-based calibration where possible if absolute end-to-end resistance tolerance would dominate error.
