Product Overview
ADM3232EARNZ-REEL7 is a dual-channel 3.3 V RS-232 transceiver with two transmitters and two receivers. The E-suffixed family has a defined high-ESD interface rating on the RS-232 I/O: ±8 kV contact discharge and ±15 kV air-gap discharge.
An internal voltage doubler and inverter generate the RS-232 rails from the 3.3 V supply using four external 0.1 µF capacitors. The ARNZ code uses the 16-lead narrow SOIC package.

Key Features
- Two Tx and two Rx channels at up to 460 kbps.
- Single 3.3 V supply operation.
- ±15 kV air-gap and ±8 kV contact ESD protection on RS-232 I/O.
- 16-lead SOIC_N package.
Functional Highlights
The ESD rating is useful for cable-accessible interfaces, but it does not replace connector-level protection or system compliance testing.
The charge pump allows a 3.3 V system to generate compliant RS-232 levels without a separate bipolar supply.
Application Fit
- General-purpose RS-232 links.
- Portable instruments.
- Industrial and telecom diagnostic ports.
- Cable-accessible serial interfaces requiring defined transceiver ESD robustness.
Design Considerations
- Place charge-pump capacitors close to their pins.
- Confirm the exact R-16 footprint before substituting TSSOP or wide-SOIC versions.
- Treat the ESD figures as device test ratings, not a guarantee of system-level connector compliance.
- Check cable quality and timing at the intended serial rate.
