Product Overview
MAX3232ESE+T is the industrial-temperature narrow-SOIC tape-and-reel version of the MAX3232 true RS-232 transceiver family, originally from Maxim Integrated and now supported by Analog Devices. It translates logic-level serial signals to and from RS-232 voltage levels while operating from a single 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply.
The integrated charge pump removes the need for separate positive and negative RS-232 supply rails, but external charge-pump capacitors are still part of the implementation and should follow the datasheet value and placement guidance.

Functional Highlights
Single low-voltage supply generates RS-232 signal levels
The on-chip charge pump creates the positive and negative internal voltages needed by the RS-232 drivers from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply.
Two-driver/two-receiver architecture suits common UART links
The channel count supports a conventional transmit/receive path plus additional handshake or control signals when needed by the system.
Applications / Application Fit
- MCU or processor UART to RS-232 interfaces
- Industrial equipment service ports
- Legacy serial communication ports using 3.3 V or 5 V logic systems
Design Considerations
Use the datasheet-recommended charge-pump capacitor values for the selected supply range and data-rate requirement.
Keep charge-pump capacitors close to the device and minimize noisy switching loops.
Confirm connector pinout, ESD/transient requirements and ground reference separately from the transceiver IC selection.
