TMP101NA/3K — Texas Instruments I²C/SMBus Temperature Sensor with ALERT Output in SOT-23-6

Texas Instruments TMP101NA/3K is a 6-pin SOT-23 digital temperature sensor with I²C/SMBus, selectable 9- to 12-bit resolution, programmable temperature limits, and a dedicated ALERT output. It supports up to three same-bus devices and is the TMP10x choice when threshold signaling is more important than TMP100’s larger address count.

Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments is a semiconductor manufacturer focused on analog and embedded processing technologies. Its portfolio covers power management, amplifiers, data converters, interface and isolation devices, sensors, logic, microcontrollers, processors, motor drivers, RF products and other building blocks used in electronic systems. TI supports applications across industrial automation, automotive electronics, communications equipment, personal electronics, data-center infrastructure and other embedded markets.

For engineers, the brand is relevant across both signal-chain and power architectures: TI components can be used to sense and condition real-world signals, convert and manage power, move data between interfaces, and provide embedded control or processing. The company also maintains manufacturer documentation, design tools and technical resources for a large number of orderable devices.

HKEQGOO brand pages group Texas Instruments electronic components by exact manufacturer part number so buyers and engineers can compare the specific device, package and application fit required for a BOM. Product availability, date code and inspection requirements should be confirmed separately for each quotation.

Product Overview

TMP101NA/3K shares the TMP10x temperature-conversion core but uses the sixth package pin for an ALERT output instead of the second TMP100 address input. That makes it better suited to thermal threshold interrupt or thermostat functions where the host should not continuously poll temperature.

The alert thresholds and operating mode are programmable over the two-wire interface. A controller can therefore use TMP101 as both a digital thermometer and a hardware-assisted overtemperature indicator.

The tradeoff is bus density: one address pin supports up to three TMP101 devices, compared with as many as eight TMP100 devices.

Functional Highlights

ALERT can reduce host polling

The dedicated open-drain ALERT output lets firmware react to programmed temperature limits without reading the temperature register continuously. Pull-up design and alert polarity/mode must match the host interrupt interface.

Bus density is lower than TMP100

Choosing ALERT consumes a package pin that TMP100 uses for address selection. Systems with more than three same-bus TMP101 sensors need bus segmentation, an address translator, or a different sensor.

Design Considerations

  • Set alert threshold and hysteresis behavior for the real thermal limit, not merely for the sensor accuracy range.
  • Account for conversion time when selecting 9-, 10-, 11- or 12-bit resolution.
  • Place the device away from unrelated heat sources if ambient or remote board temperature is the target quantity.
