Device Overview
MA302GQ-Z is an active MPS MagAlpha contactless magnetic angle sensor in QFN-16 (3 mm x 3 mm). It measures the absolute angular position of a permanent magnet and combines SPI angle readout with programmable ABZ quadrature and UVW commutation-style outputs.

Engineering Selection Notes
MA302 should be selected as a complete magnetic-mechanical system, not from the 12-bit number alone. Magnet diameter, field strength, air gap, axial/radial offset, and end-of-shaft versus side-shaft geometry directly affect angle error and usable field margin. MPS provides magnetic design guidance because mechanical stack-up is part of sensor accuracy.
SPI gives the host an absolute digital angle, while ABZ and UVW can provide hardware-friendly incremental or motor-commutation outputs without continuously decoding SPI in the control loop. The choice between these outputs depends on whether the system needs absolute position, encoder-style pulse feedback, or phase-related commutation signals.
On-chip nonvolatile memory stores settings such as zero position, ABZ configuration, UVW pole-pair emulation, and magnetic-field thresholds. That reduces external configuration storage, but programmed settings become part of manufacturing control and should be documented alongside the BOM.
