Product Overview

ADUM3221BRZ is a dual-channel isolated gate driver from Analog Devices with 4 A peak output capability per driver channel. It uses iCoupler digital isolation to transfer the two logic inputs across the isolation barrier and is intended to drive external power MOSFET or IGBT gates from an isolated secondary supply.

A key selection point is the output relationship: unlike devices that enforce complementary operation or shoot-through prevention internally, the ADuM3221 channels are independently controlled and may both be high at the same time. That behavior is useful when independent gate control is required, but it also means dead time and cross-conduction prevention must be handled by the system where the power stage requires it.

Gate-Drive Integration Considerations

The 4 A rating describes peak source/sink drive capability rather than a continuous output current. External gate resistance, device gate charge, switching frequency and required rise/fall time determine the actual driver current pulses and power dissipation.

Because both outputs can be asserted simultaneously, half-bridge designs must generate suitable dead time upstream. This exact behavior should be checked before replacing an interlocked dual driver with ADUM3221BRZ.
