Engineering Selection Guidance
SHCP and STCP are separate clocks: serial data can be shifted internally and then transferred to the storage register as one output update. Tying the clocks together changes that timing relationship.
OE only controls the 3-state output drivers; it does not clear the shift or storage register. MR is the asynchronous control that clears the shift register.
