Product Overview

MCP41050-I/SN is a 50 kΩ single-channel digital potentiometer from Microchip. It uses the same 8-bit SPI-controlled wiper architecture as the MCP41010 but provides five times the nominal end-to-end resistance.

This makes it better suited to higher-impedance trimming, bias and gain-setting networks where the 10 kΩ MCP41010 would load the surrounding circuit too heavily.

Digital-Potentiometer Considerations

The wiper is an analog switch network rather than a mechanical potentiometer. Signal voltage must stay within the device supply rails, and wiper resistance becomes a larger share of total resistance when operating near an end code.

The related MCP41010-I/SN is a 10 kΩ SPI digital potentiometer; it is useful to compare when the 50 kΩ resistance of this MCP41050 would load the analog network differently. More interfaces are listed in the digital potentiometer category.
