Product Overview

The LM2576-5.0WU is Microchip’s 5 V fixed-output LM2576 buck regulator in the 5-lead TO-263 package. It provides up to 3 A regulated output using a low-frequency 52 kHz architecture and an external inductor, catch diode and capacitors.

The WU suffix is the TO-263 version. It should not be confused with the WT TO-220 variant or the WU-TR reel option.

Design Considerations

The regulator requires the recommended Schottky catch diode, inductor and output capacitor ESR range for stable operation. Modern low-ESR capacitors should be checked against the datasheet rather than substituted blindly.

At large VIN−VOUT and heavy load, package dissipation can become substantial despite switching operation. Use copper spreading and thermal calculations for the TO-263 pad.
