Product Overview
MAX485ESA+T is the industrial-temperature narrow-SOIC tape-and-reel orderable version of the MAX485 low-power RS-485/RS-422 transceiver family, originally from Maxim Integrated and now supported by Analog Devices. It provides one differential driver and one differential receiver for half-duplex serial links.
Reliable operation depends on the complete bus, not only on the IC. Termination, biasing, cable impedance, common-mode range, stub length and transient environment should all be evaluated for the target network.

Functional Highlights
Half-duplex driver and receiver share one differential pair
Driver-enable and receiver-enable control allows the device to transmit or listen on a two-wire RS-485 network.
Production-listed exact orderable code supports controlled BOMs
Analog Devices currently lists MAX485ESA+T as a production model, which is useful when lifecycle status matters for sourcing and redesign decisions.
Applications / Application Fit
- Industrial multidrop serial links
- Embedded controllers using two-wire RS-485 networks
- Equipment service or redesign requiring the exact MAX485ESA+T orderable code
Design Considerations
Terminate the bus according to cable impedance and network topology rather than placing termination automatically at every node.
Provide defined idle-state biasing where the system protocol requires a known receiver state.
Check surge, ESD and ground-potential requirements separately; a basic transceiver does not by itself replace external protection in harsh installations.
