Product Overview
TMP116AIDRVR is a high-accuracy digital sensor for applications that need substantially better error limits than ordinary board monitors without implementing an RTD signal chain. It returns a 16-bit temperature code with 0.0078°C resolution and requires no user calibration for its published accuracy.
Compared with TMP117, TMP116 offers a different accuracy/memory balance: it specifies ±0.2°C maximum over −10°C to 85°C and provides 64 bits of general-purpose EEPROM, while TMP117 targets still tighter accuracy and a wider high-temperature range with 48 bits of EEPROM.
Low conversion-cycle current reduces self-heating, but physical mounting remains critical for a precision sensor. Board heat conduction can be larger than the IC conversion error.

Functional Highlights
Resolution is much finer than absolute accuracy
A 0.0078°C code step supports fine trend measurement, averaging and control, but it does not mean the sensor has millikelvin absolute accuracy. Use the published accuracy band for error budgets.
Integrated EEPROM can store local calibration or identity data
The 64-bit nonvolatile area can keep small sensor-specific parameters near the measurement point, avoiding a separate EEPROM for simple metadata.
Design Considerations
- Do not equate 16-bit resolution with absolute accuracy.
- Place the package to measure the intended thermal node; PCB copper and nearby power dissipation can create gradients.
- Use averaging and conversion rate only as needed because longer/more frequent conversion changes response and power.
