Product Overview
The LAN9514-JZX is Microchip’s commercial-temperature USB 2.0 connectivity controller that combines a four-port Hi-Speed USB hub with a complete 10/100 Ethernet MAC and PHY. It provides one upstream USB connection, four downstream USB ports and a single Ethernet interface in one 64-pin QFN device.
The exact JZX order code is specified for 0°C to +70°C operation. This matters because the related LAN9514i-JZX is the industrial -40°C to +85°C version; the industrial temperature grade must not be transferred to LAN9514-JZX simply because the functional silicon family is shared.

Design Considerations
The four downstream USB ports require external power-switching and overcurrent implementation appropriate to the selected bus-powered or self-powered architecture. The controller integrates USB termination and PHY functions, but downstream VBUS power management remains a board-level design choice.
For Ethernet, the integrated PHY reduces controller count but still requires the appropriate magnetics, connector interface and 25 MHz clock implementation. If the application needs industrial temperature operation, use the exact LAN9514i order code rather than assuming LAN9514-JZX covers -40°C operation.
