Product Overview

The MCP6541RT-E/OT is the extended-temperature, reverse-pinout SOT-23-5 ordering variant of Microchip’s MCP6541 sub-microamp comparator. It operates from 1.6 V to 5.5 V and combines a push-pull output with very low supply current for battery-powered threshold, supervisory and sensor-interface circuits.

The RT pinout is a procurement and PCB-layout detail that should not be ignored. Microchip offers several MCP6541 SOT-23 orientations, so a functionally similar MCP6541 order code can still be mechanically incompatible if the suffix is changed without checking the pin assignment.

Design Considerations

The greater-than-rail input range is useful for low-voltage sensing, but input pins still have absolute-maximum limits. Signals that can exceed the supply rails during power sequencing should be checked against the protection-current limits rather than relying on the functional common-mode description alone.

The device trades speed for extremely low current. A several-microsecond propagation delay is suitable for supervisory and slow sensing functions, but it is not a substitute for a high-speed comparator in timing-critical edge detection.
