Product Overview
CD74HC4051PWR is an HC-speed implementation of the classic 4051 analog multiplexer. It selects one of eight bidirectional analog channels while retaining the familiar 4051 address/inhibit control scheme.
Its analog signal rails can differ from the logic reference, allowing bipolar or wider analog signals than ordinary 5 V logic muxes. The tradeoff is switch resistance in the tens of ohms rather than the few-ohm level of newer TMUX parts.
The PWR order code is the compact leaded TSSOP reel format; it is useful when an established HC4051 schematic must be kept while reducing board area relative to SOIC/PDIP.

Functional Highlights
HC4051 combines legacy pin/function compatibility with faster CMOS logic
It suits mature 4051 architectures that need HC-family switching speed and TTL-compatible control without redesigning the mux topology.
Switch resistance belongs in the analog error budget
At low source/load impedance, tens of ohms can create gain error and settling effects. High-impedance ADC inputs reduce static loading but still require acquisition-time analysis.
Design Considerations
- Set VCC/VEE so every analog signal stays inside the allowed switch voltage range.
- Include Ron and source impedance in ADC settling/gain calculations.
- Use inhibit/default control states so no channel is unintentionally selected during reset.
