Product Overview
TCA9534PWR is a simple 8-bit low-voltage GPIO expander for hosts that need more control/status pins but do not need hardware RESET or voltage-translation rail separation. It supports supply rails down to 1.65 V and up to eight hardware addresses.
The three address pins are useful when several 8-bit expanders share one bus. In contrast, TCA6408A offers only two addresses but adds hardware RESET and explicit translating-domain capability; choosing between them depends on system recovery/voltage architecture rather than bit count alone.
The TSSOP-16 PWR option provides visible leads and a 2000-piece reel, making it straightforward for standard assembly and rework.

Functional Highlights
Eight address combinations scale well across distributed small GPIO banks
Using multiple local 8-bit expanders can reduce long parallel traces and keep status/control routing near connectors.
No dedicated RESET means recovery depends on power cycle/software/bus state
If deterministic external reset of the expander is a requirement, TCA9534 is not equivalent to TCA6408A/9539 variants that expose reset.
Design Considerations
- Use external safe pulls for inputs/loads that cannot float during power-up.
- Confirm that lack of a dedicated reset pin is acceptable for the product fault-recovery strategy.
- Size bus pull-ups for the total capacitance when using several addressed devices.
