Its 2.7–5.5 V operating range makes it more flexible on lower-voltage distribution rails than the later TPS2051C variant, whose source range is oriented to 4.5–5.5 V USB power.
The B generation does not imply the same reverse-blocking/output-discharge feature set as the C generation. Exact family generation therefore matters even when the part numbers appear nearly identical.
