Product Overview
TCA9555PWR is a 16-bit low-voltage I²C GPIO expander with three address pins, allowing up to eight devices on one bus. It therefore favors address density over a dedicated external RESET pin.
Compared with the older PCA9555, TCA9555 supports operation down to 1.65 V, which is useful on modern low-voltage controllers. Compared with TCA9539, it doubles same-bus address combinations but omits the explicit reset input.
The PWR exact order code is the leaded TSSOP-24 2000-piece reel option and is straightforward to inspect/rework.

Functional Highlights
Eight addresses support very large remote GPIO counts without an I²C mux
Eight 16-bit devices can theoretically expose 128 GPIOs on one address segment, subject to bus capacitance/interrupt architecture.
Low-voltage support is a real migration advantage over PCA9555
A design moving its logic rail below 2.3 V can retain a similar 16-bit expander role with TCA9555, provided register/pin/system compatibility is verified.
Design Considerations
- Check aggregate I²C capacitance/pull-up timing before using many devices simply because addresses are available.
- Plan a recovery strategy because there is no dedicated RESET pin.
- Initialize output registers before changing direction from the input-default state.
