Product Overview

INA186A2IDDFR is a low-power zero-drift current-sense amplifier intended for wide dynamic range, including low-current measurement where input bias would otherwise become a significant error. The A2 option provides 50 V/V fixed gain across a −0.2 V to 40 V common-mode range.

Its 0.5 nA typical input bias permits larger shunt resistors in microamp-range measurements without the tens-of-microamp bias error associated with many high-side monitors. The zero-drift architecture also holds offset to ±50 µV maximum, but bandwidth is intentionally modest at 37 kHz for A2.

The 8-pin DDF order code exposes both REF for bidirectional measurement and ENABLE for power management. Those pins are part of the exact-package selection value and are not available in every INA186 package implementation.

Functional Highlights

Low input bias extends useful current range downward

When load current is very small, input bias current through source/shunt resistance can dominate the measurement. Sub-nanoamp typical bias makes INA186 better suited to high-value shunts and low-current monitoring.

Enable and 48 µA typical current support duty-cycled monitoring

The DDF package can be disabled when measurement is not required. Wake/settling behavior should still be included in firmware timing if readings are taken shortly after enabling.

Design Considerations

  • Use the DDF ENABLE pin logic levels from the datasheet rather than assuming generic CMOS thresholds.
  • For bidirectional sensing, drive REF from a stable low-impedance node and check output swing around it.
  • Accept the 37 kHz A2 bandwidth as part of the zero-drift/low-power tradeoff.
